Short Bio: Amakusa
Amakusa led a rebellion against the Tokugawa Shogunate, lost, and was executed. Known for his narcissism, he couldn’t bear the sting of defeat. In death, his pride curdled into vengeance. After stewing in the void for a century, he made a pact with the dark goddess Ambrosia: in exchange for stealing the Palenke Stone—a relic that would grant Ambrosia access to the mortal realm—she would help him return.
With her power, Amakusa possessed the body of Shinzo Hattori (son of Hanzo Hattori, another warrior in the series). After stealing the stone, he plunged the world into chaos. A group of heroes rises to stop him—these become the playable fighters of the first game, with Amakusa as the final boss. In the climax, the samurai Haohmaru defeats him, splitting his soul in half.
Later in the series, the good half of Amakusa seeks reconciliation with his evil side. But evil Amakusa has manipulated a young wizard, Hazuki, to build a magical castle and resurrect the brutal warrior Zankuro. Hazuki’s brother Kazuki ultimately defeats Zankuro. Now freed from Amakusa’s control, Zankuro destroys evil Amakusa once and for all.
Good Amakusa tries to atone—but Rashoujin, a vengeful agent of Ambrosia, punishes his betrayal by sealing him away. Amakusa eventually breaks free and joins forces with the other heroes to stop Rashoujin. In a final act of redemption, he is destroyed, his soul finally forced to leave Shinzo’s body forever
